Caer Elen Language Centre
Caer Elen Language Centre is located on the campus of Ysgol Caer Elen in Haverfordwest and serves pupils who have transferred to the school and neighbouring schools. With the establishment of a new Welsh language school aged 3-16 in Haverfordwest in September 2018, the Caer Elen Language Centre was also opened. Ysgol Caer Elen was established to meet the growing demand for Welsh language education in south Pembrokeshire. The Language Centre has played a key role in the school's growth and activity from the very beginning by offering linguistic intervention to pupils as they transition from the English education sector to Welsh-medium education. Further success was seen in the growth of Welsh-medium education in south Pembrokeshire with the opening of Ysgol Bro Penfro in September 2024. Canolfan Iaith Caer Elen now operates a satellite language center at Ysgol Bro Penfro in order to support pupils who have transferred to the school and who are new to the Welsh language.

Caer Elen Language Centre courses
The provision of the Language Centre includes the following courses:
Latecomers course for primary school children
This two-day course has a strong focus on developing the pupils’ oracy skills with language patterns and vocabulary based on classroom practice, and expressive language in order to support the natural integration of pupils into their schools.
Progression Course for primary school children
During the second year of the course, on this one-day course, pupils build upon the skills gained in the first year, paying increasing attention to further promoting literacy skills through wider reading and extended writing.
Transition
In addition to the Latecomers courses, the centre works closely with the local primary schools and Year 6 pupils who will continue their education at Ysgol Caer Elen in Key Stages 3 and 4.

In my opinion, the Language Centre is fantastic because when I started in year 5, I didn't have much Welsh at all. Today, I can communicate fluently with the teachers and my friends and I am also part of the top sets of the year. I feel confident to mutate and use idioms in my work. The Language Centre has enabled me to meet children from different schools and to develop my group work skills. The best thing about the Language Centre was the trips, like the trip to the Senedd; the passionate teachers and the fun activities!

I strongly believe that the Language Centre is a great place for a child like me to develop. A child who came to a Welsh school from an English school. It was a fantastic chance to gain new experience and improve my opportunities for the future. The Language Centre has helped me much more than I had expected. I had gone from speaking one or two simple sentences to communicating very confidently in less than two years! My favorite thing about the Language Centre was the wonderful teachers and the various tours. The trip to the Senedd gave me the opportunity to interview Eluned Morgan. It was an excellent experience.

Without Mrs Rees, my teacher at the Language Centre, I would never have reached the point where I am now. Learning Welsh was an unforgettable experience because I had such a fun time learning a new language. Before coming to school, I couldn't speak a word in Welsh and I really thought it was impossible to learn so many new words. In my opinion, you can't learn something new if you don't enjoy it. Today, I'm fluent in Welsh and can speak fluently with everyone in Wales. The Language Centre shows that you can connect learning a new language with having fun in your lessons. The best thing about the experience was going on a trip to Wickedly Welsh and coming back to school with a huge chocolate pizza. I was really sad to leave the Language Centre.
