Bro Gwaun Language Centre
Bro Gwaun Language Centre is located at Bro Gwaun High School in the coastal town of Fishguard. The centre serves the primary schools in the cluster's family of schools. The Centre was opened in September 2001 as part of the Fishguard Project and it helps the area's non-Welsh-speaking newcomers to get used to the Welsh language quickly, ensuring them full access to Welsh-medium education. At the centre, in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, children of a similar age and linguistic ability, from many local primary schools, come together for Welsh courses.

Bro Gwaun Language Center courses
The provision of the Language Centre includes the following courses:
Latecomers course for primary school children
This two-day course has a strong focus on developing the pupils’ oracy skills with language patterns and vocabulary based on classroom practice, and expressive language in order to support the natural integration of pupils into their schools.
Progression Course for primary school children
During the second year of the course, on this one-day course, pupils build upon the skills gained in the first year, paying increasing attention to further promoting literacy skills through wider reading and extended writing.
Bwrlwm Bro Gwaun
In addition to the Latecomers' courses, 'Bwrlwm Bro Gwaun’ transition courses are held for Year 6 pupils who will continue their education at Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Key Stages 3 and 4.
This course for pupils who have received Welsh-medium education in primary will focus on further immersion in the Welsh Language and preparing them for their classes in Year 7. These pupils will continue to follow subjects such as Welsh, Humanities, Creative Arts, PSE and PE through the medium of Welsh in KS3.
Transition course for English-medium pupils
This less intensive Welsh transition course is held for Year 6 pupils to provide further support and transition.

Dylan
I started having lessons with Canolfan Iaith Bro Gwaun and Mrs Bellis when I was in year 5. Up until then my Welsh was very little and I was very unfamiliar with the language. These lessons enabled me to hold a conversation confidently through the medium of Welsh and gave me the foundations to achieve higher when I reached my GCSE exams. This has enabled me to get to where I am now, working in a Welsh-medium school where I use the skills I learned during the sessions on a daily basis.
Efa
Attending the Language Center in Bro Gwaun with Mrs Bellis gave me huge confidence in using my Welsh. We had a great time acting, singing, going on nature walks, filming, recording and much more. I am now studying at Bristol University and I also got a Scholarship to study A level a Private School for Rugby. Although I don't use my Welsh every day at the moment the experiences at the Language Center gave me confidence and has also opened doors for me if I came back to Wales to work in the future.
Yolanta
I moved to Wales when I was seven years old. I am originally from Latvia. I couldn't speak English or Welsh. What I remember is learning how to tell and act out stories and then setting out to write the stories in Welsh. I got great results in my exams and I will remember those experiences at the Center forever. Thank you very much for the opportunity and for the welcome.
